In Progress: Epping Forest
Since 2020.
Epping Forest, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, covers over 6,000 acres and is home to over 55,000 ancient trees as well as two iron age forts and former hiding places of the eighteenth century highwayman Dick Turpin. It stretches from the border of London and Essex down to the built-up, urban streets of east London. Since the coronavirus lockdown, I’ve been exploring the Forest. Once I choose a site, I return with my large format film camera and leave it in the same location for the daylight hours, making exposures periodically to show the quiet passing of time amidst the constant movement and change of the surrounding cityscape.
